Eymael: Broos Not Playing The Nicest Football

Eymael: Broos Not Playing The Nicest Football

With Bafana Bafana set to face Nigeria on Wednesday, the South African national team's head coach Hugo Broos has been hailed for the work he has done so far.

Bafana defeated Cape Verde 2-1 on penalties on Saturday night to reach the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations and the Belgian coach has been commended for how the team has been able to grind results in Ivory Coast.

Speaking to the Siya crew, Broos' countryman Luc Eymael lauded the 71-year-old for Bafana's progress although he feels that the team can do better with their performances.

Following the weekend's victory, Broos was the first to admit that the team's performances wasn't so great although he was pleased for advancing to the next round.

"If you want to win the Afcon, you have to play with your best players. In assembling the team, you have to make sure that you have locally based players that are very good in the mix, and Hugo Broos has done that. He did the same thing when he was in Cameroon, and it worked for him as he went on to win the tournament. I remember when he coached Cameroon, I was in South Africa and I followed his progress. I know that the guy has been criticised a lot but what I know is that he knows what he is doing," said Eymael, speaking exclusively to the Siya crew.

"Yes, he is not playing the nicest football and I agree with anyone who is saying that. But what he has been saying is that the most important thing is the results. Every game now is like a final before the final. The players now need to focus and put in 100% effort. I wish South Africa to go through," the former Free State Stars coach said.
