With Kaizer Chiefs legends and former players calling for Pitso Mosimane to be appointed as the club's head coach, a fellow coach in Mzansi is in support as he believes that Amakhosi would conquer in the PSL and Africa under the ex-Bafana Bafana mentor.
While Cavin Johnson remains an interim coach at Chiefs, speculation remains about Mosimane being one of the targets for the club although he has also been linked with the Nigeria national team coaching job.
Other coaches linked with the Soweto giants include Nasreddine Nabi, Alexandra Gallo and Sven Vandenbroeck though former Golden Arrows assistant coach Abel Makhubele believes that Chiefs and Mosimane would be like a match made in heaven.
The Good
"Well, coach Pitso Mosimane has proven to be the best club coach in Africa currently, having won the Champions League with Sundowns and Al Ahly. Coach Pitso knows South African football very well. He knows the players very well because even when he was outside of the country, he would comment about South African football very well. It showed that his heart has always been home, and he has always been up to date with whatever has been happening in the PSL. I believe that him and Kaizer Chiefs would be a perfect combination. You must remember that Pitso revived Sundowns. When he joined Sundowns, the team had collapsed and had not been doing well for years and he revived the club. He's got a pedigree to wake up the sleeping giants. Al Ahly was struggling to win the Champions League when they brought him and he revived that club and conquered Africa," said Makhubele.
The Bad
On the standard of the PSL
"As a coach, I believe that the standard has dropped a little bit. I don't know what the problem is, or maybe it's because teams are not acquiring enough talent, I am not too sure. Proof of the dropping standards is the way that Sundowns have been cruising alone in the league all these years. The way it has been happening it's something that has never been seen for years. Back in the day, we knew that there would be a few teams challenging for the title but Sundowns has been cruising alone in recent years. That is why I am tempted to say that the standard has dropped, and the so-called big teams are struggling," added the German B License holder.
The Ugly
'Other teams should take a leaf out of Sundowns' book'
"Before we can talk about other teams having to improve, we need to commend Sundowns on how they go about doing their business. They have structured their team in a very professional way. Maybe other teams should take a leaf out of Sundowns' book on how they do their business at Chloorkop. It is a multifaceted issue, and they (other clubs) need to look at how they scout as well in relation to their philosophy or style of play. They also need to get the right coaches, I believe," concluded Makhubele.
