Chiefs’ Striker Conveyor Belt In Numbers

Chiefs’ Striker Conveyor Belt In Numbers

With the future of striker Jasond Gonzalez, who is yet to score, looking uncertain at Kaizer Chiefs, Soccer Laduma looks at striker signings at Amakhosi that did not live up to expectations in the last decade.

Gonzalez arrived at the Glamour Boys from Bolivian Primera Division club Real Santa Cruz this season, having netted eight goals in 14 appearances.

However, according to Siya sources, Chiefs don't look like they will be keeping the Colombian beyond his loan deal, as he is yet to impress.

Should Gonzalez leave Amakhosi without making an impact, he will join a long list of striker signings that failed to deliver at the club in the last 10 years.

2019/20

Lazarous Kambole

Kambole could not live up to expectations, as he scored only two goals in 46 matches for Amakhosi after he joined from Zesco United.

2017/18

Bhongolwethu Jayiya

Despite big promise, Jayiya left Chiefs without scoring a goal in 20 appearances after he was signed from Cape Town City.

2016/17

Edmore Chirambadare, Lewis Macha, Mitchell Katsvairo

Chirambadare scored only one goal for Amakhosi in 27 games after joining from Zimbabwean side Chicken Inn.

Macha left Amakhosi without scoring in six games after he was signed from Mozambican side Ferroviaro de Maputo.

Katsvairo only managed two goals in 14 games for Chiefs after arriving with countryman Chirambadare from Chicken Inn.

2015/16

Bongani Ndulula, Edward Manqele, Camaldine Abraw

Ndulula was signed from AmaZulu but left the club without a goal after featuring five times.

Manqele scored only once in 23 games after joining from Chippa United while Abraw scored six times in 28 appearances for Chiefs, after he was signed from Free State Stars.

2014/15

Siphelele Mthembu

Mthembu was signed from Platinum Stars and only managed two goals in 44 appearances for the Glamour Boys.

2013/14

Katlego Mphela, Matthew Rusike

Mphela came to Chiefs with a lot of expectation after he was signed in the 2014 January transfer window, initially on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns before a two-year deal came into effect.

'Killer' had scored 50 goals for the Brazilians in 122 appearances. However, he only managed four goals for Amakhosi in 17 matches during his stay, which was interrupted by injuries.

Rusike scored 4 goals for Chiefs in 34 games after joining from Jomo Cosmos.
