Amakhosi coach Molefi Ntseki gave Itumeleng Khune his first start of the season, with the veteran goalkeeper becoming the first player in the Premier Soccer League era to play a match for one club in 17 successive seasons.
Khune's first task was taking the ball out of his net after the first minute when Terrence Dzvukamanja opened the scoring with a well-taken volley from Bradley Grobler's cross.
Despite the early set back, Molefi Ntseki's charges enjoyed most of the possession and looked particularly threatening down the left flank, while both Edson Castillo and Ashley du Preez passed up chances in the opening 15 minutes.
Gavin Hunt was forced to re-shuffle the pack midway through the first half when Gamphani Lungu was forced off after collision with Sifiso Hlanti and replaced by Keenan Bezuidenhout, who scored in the CAF Confederation Cup over the weekend.
The Soweto giants should have found themselves on level terms eight minutes before the break when Jasond Gonzalez failed to connect with a low cross at the near post, as Hunt's charges were thankful to hear the sound of the halftime whistle.
The Soweto giants carried that momentum into the second period and dominated the Pretoria counter-parts, but they were still finding it tough to find a way past Ricardo Goss.
Ntseki responded with his first change just after the hour mark as Pule Mmodi replaced Christian Saile while Hunt made the decision to withdraw Grobler for Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Etiosa Ighodaro.
SuperSport had the chance to get the two-goal cushion with 15 minutes left on the clock but Bezuidenhout sent his effort wide of the mark with Khune to beat on the edge of the area.
While Khune was keeping Chiefs in the game at the one end, the attackers struggled to carve out any serious openings at the other end as Hunt gathered another win against his former employers.
