Pirates Make Big Decision On Star Attacker?

Terrence Dzvukamanja of Orlando Pirates celebrates a goal with teammates during the 2023 Nedbank Cup final match between Orlando Pirates and Sekhukhune United FC at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on 27 May 2023

With player movements and other plans expected at the different clubs in the DStv Premiership, Orlando Pirates are believed to have made their decision on attacker Terrence Dzvukamanja.

During the first half of the 2022/23 season, Dzvukamanja's future with the Buccaneers was said to be in doubt as he struggled for game time and apparent loss of form.

At the time, the Zimbabwean international had featured just once in the first 15 matches of the season in the league and had not been included in any of the other matchday squads under Jose Riveiro.

With his contract set to expire at the end of June this year, insiders painted a gloomy picture about the player's future with the Soweto giants at the time.

However, in the second half of the season, Dzvukamanja managed to grab the chance given to him by the Spanish coach and his performances have been improving.

From 13 matches in the league since January, the 29-year-old has scored seven goals and bagged two assists to help Bucs to finish second on the log and qualify for the next instalment of the CAF Champions League.

Furthermore, the forward proved to be a hero in the Nedbank Cup after netting the winner in the 2-1 victory in the final on Saturday against Sekhukhune United.

Sources have confirmed that Pirates have decided that they would like to extend the player's contract to keep him in the squad for next season and possibly beyond that.

"Orlando Pirates are keen to keep Terrence Dzvukamanja beyond the current season. The player has done well to impress during the second half of the season. Talks are expected to begin between the club and the player's representatives and it's likely to be a two-year extension or more," said the source.
