Pirates Fringe Players Earn Praise From Riveiro

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro was pleased with the impact made by the players who got a run out against Royal AM.

The Spanish tactician had one eye on the upcoming Nedbank Cup semi-final and opted to hand starts to teenager Relebohile Ratomo, Makhehleni Makhaula, Phillip Ndlondlo, Bandile Shandu, Fortune Makaringe and Kermit Erasmus.

The Buccaneers ended up dropping points at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening, but the coach believes a lot of the players put their hands up for game time.

"Yeah, like I said its positive. The beginning of the game was slow than we expected because even if you introduce new players fresh and good," Riveiro told SuperSport after the game.

"They are not used to play together so it takes a bit of time to start to play well or the way we want but I think little by little we managed to dominate and I'm happy because many players today came to the party and we know that we can use them until the end of the season."

Riveiro added that the result was a disappointing one despite dominating throughout the encounter.

"Not happy with the result. I think we produce much more today to actually have a comfortable result. At halftime, I think we were a bit unlucky and when the result is that tight these things can happen at the end of the game," Riveiro said.

"It's not the first time, unfortunately for us we dropped points in the last actions of the game. But still, it's a difficult week for us I try to take the positive things.

"We get one more point, its one more point advantage that we have to protect, defend and capitalise in the end of season."
