The 38-year-old's time at Old Trafford came to an acrimonious end after his contract was mutually terminated over comments he made about the club, Erik ten Hag and his suitability to manage the side during a notorious interview with Piers Morgan.
The Dutchman was not the only manager on the end of Ronaldo's verbal attack as Ralf Rangnick also came under fire from the five-time Ballon d'Or winner during that interview.
The forward questioned the German's fitness to be head coach of the Red Devils after the now-Austria national team boss was appointed on an interim basis halfway through the 2021/22 season, before being replaced by Ten Hag at the beginning of this campaign.
As per ESPN, Ronaldo is now said to have requested to Rangnick that Harry Maguire be stripped of the club captaincy, and that he be given the armband instead.
However, the 64-year-old denied the forward's plea and the England international stayed on as skipper.
While Maguire does remain captain of the Red Devils today, there are some reservations about the 30-year-old's long-term future at the Theatre of Dreams.
The same report suggests that United's technical team are wary of the England international's tendency to rush out of position to win tackles, as well as his ability to cover ground.

The Sheffield native is currently behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane in the club's centre-back pecking order, but is expected to remain the team's official captain until at least the end of the 2022/23 campaign.
