'Sundowns Exposed Al Ahly's Defensive Issues'

An Al Ahly legend has emphasised that the club must learn from their 5-2 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their must-win encounter in the CAF Champions League against Al Hilal.

A last-minute Ronwen Williams penalty save in Khartoum spared the record African champions an embarrassing group-stage exit from Africa's premier club competition as Florent Ibenge's men only managed a 1-1 draw this past weekend against Ka bo Yellow.

Now the Sudanese giants will travel Cairo to see who will join Masandawana in the tournament's quarter-finals, but ex-Ahly midfielder Hady Khashaba has claimed that the Red Devils should not be as tactically naïve as they were in Tshwane.

"Al Ahly must not enter the game against Al-Hilal with an offensive mindset, and the formation they should use is 4-2-3-1," Khashaba told Ten TV.

"Sundowns is a great team and they have offensive solutions, therefore they revealed the defensive flaws of the Reds.

"Al Ahly's head coach, Marcel Koller needs to handle the individual mistakes of the players. Mohamed El Shenawy is a great goalkeeper, but Ali Lotfi and Mostafa Shobeir must be given an opportunity, to be ready at any time."

The Egyptian side need to beat Ibenge's charges by two goals if they are to progress to the Champions League knockout stage.
