Lehlohonolo Majoro almost opened the scoring in the third minute with low header inside the box, but goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse made a brilliant save at full stretch towards the bottom corner.

Two minutes later, Majoro had another chance s the Clever Boys were turning the United defence but once again Pieterse stood firm to keep the score goalless.

Bongani Khumalo gave Gavin Hunt's charges the lead in the 16th minute after firing a half-volley past Pieterse following a corner, 1-0.

James Keene doubled the hosts' lead three minutes later as he squeezed home a shot from a tight angle that sailed through Pieterse's legs, 2-0.

Khumalo almost got his brace on the half-an-hour mark after being gifted space in the centre of the box to hit a powerful low shot, but Pieterse did well to make the save with his legs.

The Clever Boys were still dominating after 40 minutes, while SuperSport found it tough to carve out clear cut openings as they went into the break trailing.

Eric Tinkler brought on Kingston Nkhatha at the beginning of the second half in place of Teboho Mokoena as he was looking for more firepower upfront.

United increased their tempo 10 minutes after the break and were threatening going forward but the home side were solid defensively.

Tinkler made a double substitution in the 67th minute by bringing on Sipho Mbule in place of Reneilwe Letsholonyane while Thabo Mnyamane came on for the in-effective Jeremy Brockie.

Thuso Phala had a rare chance 13 minutes before time with a snap shot inside the area, but his effort went wide of the target.

The Clever Boys controlled the match in the closing stages as they secured three points, which sees them move off the foot of the table.
