Katlego Mashego struck late in the second half to hand the Chilli Boys a 1-0 win over the AmaKhosi on Saturday afternoon.
Trialist, Jonathan Philippe was handed start in the attack alongside new signing Bhongolwethu Jayiya.
"We had a couple players we wanted to look at, so we said it's fine with the exercise it gave you a lot of information," Komphela told SABC Sport after the game.
"In the first half, I thought we had good disciplined it was part of an exercise, where you saying sit in the block, lets keep position and how quick do you come out.
"Second half got a bit better, but there was a couple players we were looking at and I said it's fine with the exercise, you can go back put your notes and move on."
