DStv Premiership Report: Golden Arrows v Swallows 22 December 2021

Dylan Kerr took charge of his first game for Swallows FC, who let a two-goal lead slip against Golden Arrows on Wednesday evening.

DStv Premiership

Result: Swallows 2-2 Golden Arrows

Date: 22 December 2021

Venue: Dobsonville Stadium

Kerr gave goalkeeper Thela Ngobeni, Thabo Mosadi and Fawaaz Basadien their first starts of the season while Mwape Musonda and Katlego Mohamme were recalled in the five changes to the side that lost against Cape Town City.

The Birds had a bright start and Kamohelo Mahlatsi eventually broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with a close-range finish from a rebound after Musonda hit the post with a strike in the box.

Arrows were getting into the game and Michael Gumede had a chance to level matters five minutes later after receiving a through ball unmarked at the back post but he struck his shot over the bar.

Swallows eventually doubled their lead nine minutes before the half-time break after Musonda headed home a corner from Basadien at the near post and went to the halftime break with a two-goal cushion.

Lehlohonolo Seema made a double attacking change at half-time, as Lindokuhle Mtshali replaced Lungelo Dube and Knox Mutizwa came on for Nduduzo Sibiya.

The change seemed to have a desired effect for Arrows, as Michael Gumede pulled a goal back four minutes into the second stanza with a header in the box after a cross by Mthokozisi Dube.

Abafana Bes'thende gained momentum and Michael Gumede levelled matters 15 minutes before time from set-piece routine, as Michael Gumede finished off a cut-back from Mtshali in the box and got his brace.

Arrows were threatening to snatch the winner, creating clear chances and Pule Mmodi was denied by the post in stoppages after a chip over Ngobeni, as the sides shared the spoils, with Seema's men stretching their unbeaten run to eight matches.
