Bernard Parker Has Explained Where His 'Die Hond' Nickname Came From
Kaizer Chiefs' Bernard Parker is regularly known as 'Die Hond' in the football fraternity, but not everybody knows where the nickname came from.   Read: Chiefs Linked With Another Overseas Star   The 31-year-old, who finished this season with five goals in the Absa Premiership, has been a firm favourite at Kaizer Chiefs in recent years, playing +24 league matches in all of the last six seasons.   Parker will be hoping to keep his place in Steve Komphela's side for the 2017/18 season as he looks to earn himself a new contract prior to his current one expiring in June 2019.   'Die Hond' says that his nickname has been with him ever since he was playing on the streets as a kid and he told the Amakhosi's official website where it came from.   They explained the nickname, saying "Bernard got the nickname 'Die Hond', while playing in the streets of his hometown, Reiger Park. The other youngsters would say, "You are the Top Dog". From there on, when Parker arrived for a match, his Afrikaans speaking friends would say, "Hier kom Die Hond"."   Parker recently hit a milestone of 200 games for Chiefs and will be eager to add to that tally in the months that come.
