Deolin Mekoa Explains Why He Didn't Leave Maritzburg United

Deolin Mekoa

Deolin Mekoa says that his feeling of gratitude towards Maritzburg United is one of the key factors that kept him at the club this season.   Read: Downs Are Breaking Rules With Dolly   The 23-year-old, who was part of South Africa's Olympic team in Brazil, was hot property towards the end of last season, with both Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs both known to have been keen on him before the transfer window slammed shut.   However, despite the interest from two of Mzansi's biggest clubs, Mekoa decided to stay put with the Team of Choice and repay them for propelling him into the limelight.   Speaking in this week's issue of Soccer Laduma, the young midfielder opened up about his decision to stay in Pietermaritzburg for the time being.   Mekoa said, "My decision to stay at Maritzburg was because I felt that I owed them, since they introduced me to the spotlight, and I am a kind of well-known soccer player because of them. I am what I am because of them and I am grateful for that.   "I also feel that I need to gain more experience and, by being here at the team where I am playing in almost every game, I can get what I am looking for. Look, I'm not in a rush. I still have enough time and I will move when the time is right."   See the full interview with Mekoa in issue 998 of Soccer Laduma.
