Mamelodi Sundowns Draw vs Petro Luanda

Mamelodi Sundowns Draw vs Petro Luanda

Mamelodi Sundowns needed a 91st minute equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw away to Petro Luanda in Angola on Saturday. Five talking points from the game were as follows:

-          Nascimento returns

-          Mabunda gets rare start

-          Lebusa changes position

-          Sirino's CAF love affair

-          Onyango goes off injured

After 258 days out with an appearance, Ricardo Nascimento finally returned to the field for Sundowns. He has a solid first outing, winning one tackle and three of his six challenges, whilst completing an impressive 86% of his 29 forward passes. He will add another option in defence and give the side more penetration in their passing from the back.

The veteran midfielder has played less than 20% of the minutes this season due to Andile Jali's excellent form and fitness record. This was a first start in the CAF group stages for Mabunda this season and he has only played 465 minutes in domestic action too. He had a steady game with 90% passing accuracy and nine balls won.

The return of Nascimento saw Mosa Lebusa move to left back, his old role from Ajax Cape Town. With Sundowns being linked with Aubrey Modiba and Edmilson Dove, perhaps Pitso Mosimane is trying to find an internal solution to any concerns he has at left back.

Gaston Sirino got a goal and an assist in this game to make it four strikes and four assists in continental action this season, to add to his three goals and 11 assists in the CAF Champions League (including qualifying rounds) last season.

A concern for Sundowns going forward will be that Denis Onyango had to be withdrawn due to injury, with Kennedy Mweene coming on. He also went off injured against Golden Arrows in November in the Telkom Knockout. He could now be a doubt for Downs' upcoming games against Wydad Casabalanca as well as in the Tshwane derby against SuperSport United in the Nedbank Cup.
