Ligue 1 Report: Monaco v Paris Saint-Germain 20 March 2022

More questions will be asked of Mauricio Pochettino after leaders Paris Saint-Germain suffered as 3-0 loss to AS Monaco in Ligue 1 action on Sunday afternoon.

Result: AS Monaco 3-0 Paris Saint-Germain

Date: 20 March 2022

Venue: Stade de Louis II

The visitors were without the services of Lionel Messi, who missed out with the flu as Georginio Wijnaldum got a rare start in the PSG attack.

Monaco looked the livelier of the two sides in the early stages, as both Wissam Ben Yedder and Jean Lucas forced Gianluigi Donnarumma into saves in the opening 10 minutes.

The hosts made their early dominance count as Ben Yedder broke the deadlock on 25 minutes with an impressive back-heel from Youssouf Fofana's cross.

Neymar did go close to pulling the league leaders level 10 minutes before the halftime break, but his curling free-kick was tipped away by Alexander Nubel.

Pochettio's charges did see a bit more of the ball in the latter stages of the first half, with Achraf Hakimi forcing Nubel into a fine save after being teed up by Kylian Mbappe.

PSG came out firing in the second half and were nearly rewarded six minutes after the break when Mbappe's strike was cleared off the line by Benoit Badiashile.

While PSG were unable to find a breakthrough, Monaco doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Ruben Aguilar's first-time cross found Kevin Volland, who turned home for his first goal of the year.

Monaco added the icing on the cake with six minutes left on the clock as Ben Yadder completed his brace from penalty spot after Prensel Kimpembe's foul.
