Mixed Emotions From Chiefs Fans As Khune Return Looms

Amakhosi fans have been hit with a wave of mixed emotions following the news that Itumeleng Khune is on the mend. It's been eight months since the 32-year-old last played and while some are overjoyed at the news, others remain skeptical.

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeping department consists of Itumeleng Khune, Bruce Bvuma and Daniel Akpeyi. With Khune being out injured for an extended period, the onus was upon Bvuma, Akpeyi and the now-departed Virgil Vries to carry out duty in his absence.

Bvuma featured for Chiefs in their pre-season loss to Orlando Pirates and in the opening league match against Highlands Park and it was only due to a knock he suffered during the warm-up that Akpeyi replaced him.

The Nigerian international, who guided his country to a bronze medal finish in the AFCON looked solid when called upon and gave the Amakhosi fans a bit more security than what they felt with Bvuma.

Now with Khune's return imminent, Chiefs fans have had their say on who they think deserve the Amakhosi number one jersey.

While some fans are ecstatic about Khune's return, others feel that he should not be rushed and that Akpeyi is experienced enough to keep him out of the team.

"Akpeyi is an international Goalkeeper who deserves to be recognised at Kosi nation but instead the incompetent Bvuma is rated as a second best of Itu,Akpeyi is far better that Bvuma."

"It will be a good news to have Khune back but Middendorp must not play him against Supersport that Bradley Grobler has a good record against him, Akpeyi must be at the post to continues with his clean sheet at least. Against Cp city is where Khune is needed."

"Mzansi's finest is back... I can't wait to see him commanding and organizing our disorganized defense, as for the distribution... 100%"

Do you think that Khune should take over the number 1 jersey from Akpeyi?
