Following his side's first loss of the season at the hands of Kaizer Chiefs, Benni McCarthy feels that his side was not ruthless enough in killing off the game.
However, fans are of the opinion that perhaps the Citizens coach should shoulder some of the blame for the loss.
City were largely in control of the match throughout the first stanza, with Chiefs struggling to keep up with their crisp passing and swift movements off the ball.
The likes of Kermit Erasmus and Riyaad Norodien kept the Amakhosi defence on their toes and it was only when McCarthy made substitutions, that Chiefs managed to claw their way back into the game.
Chiefs managed to seal a come-from-behind victory, stealing it late when the match seemed destined for a draw.
As a result, fans have spoken out against the 42-year-old, feeling that instead of placing the blame on the players, he should take responsibility for losing the match.

"Benni must blame himself rather than the players. Why did he substitute Kermit, Mthembu and Makola? He is the one who allowed us to play and we took advantage of it. So far so good. Consistency will be a key to us. One save at a time. The word unbeaten still sound so sweet to our ears and we will enjoy it while it lasts. This marathon is still long."

"Pure arrogance and disrespect from Benni to proclaim there was only one team on the day and Chiefs were undeserved winners. 'The so-called big team', he underestimated Chiefs even pre-match he kept on saying he will play differently to how they approached the Downs game. That's the reason they lost the game, good plan in the 1st half but they ran like headless chickens and coming against experienced players (former Footballer of the Season) Manyama, Billiat and the likes of Parker with influential Nurkovic. Disrespect them at your own peril and results will prove you otherwise. Chiefs are not yet an oiled machine but I believe we have the players we just need a shrewd tactician in Baxter then we'll kill off many teams. Middendorp is still NOT coach to win you the league marathon."

"This guy is just too full of himself, he speaks as if his team was supposed to beat Chiefs or Chiefs was non-existent on the day. Well he should never forget, it's not how you start its more about how you finish, we had a better plan coupled with his mis-timed substitutions."

"Benni, if you cannot take a defeat bru, put your tail in between your legs and sit down... You could not maintain your lead and we punished you. Take that as a free lesson and move on with your arrogance!"
Do you think Benni McCarthy should shoulder the blame for City's loss against Chiefs?
