Why Sekhukhune Delayed Truter Exit…

DStv Premiership side Sekhukhune United finally confirmed the worst-kept secret last week when the club announced that coach Brandon Truter was leaving Babina Noko one year since his appointment.

The news came on the back of several media reports, including one published by the Siya crew, revealing Truter's future had been hanging by a thread given the mounting pressure for the team to improve results.

According to sources, the delay had been caused by protracted talks behind the scenes regarding a pay-out. Sekhukhune hired Truter in November last year on a deal confirmed to be for three seasons, but sacking him only 12 months into his tenure meant a settlement had to be negotiated before Babina Noko could issue a statement.

It's understood that had the club jumped the gun to publicly comment on his exit, this would have led to an ongoing legal battle. The former AmaZulu FC mentor was initially told to stop coaching the side after Babina Noko were knocked out of the Carling Knockout by TS Galaxy earlier this month, with his assistant MacDonald Makhubedu taking over in the interim.

Makhubedu was in charge of two matches – winning one and losing the other – before 'Brakkies' was confirmed to be leaving. Sources say the two parties have finally reached an agreement to pay out a little bit more than what would have been the standard three months, including incentive agreements, to part company with Truter, whose name has been added to potential candidates at Richards Bay FC.
