Insiders: Will Chiefs Reignite Serero Interest?

Insiders: Will Chiefs Reignite Serero Interest?

According to a second insider, an additional factor as to why Chiefs may have lost interest in pursuing Serero, is the signing of Gaston Sirino at the beginning of this season. Sirino's qualities and role in Amakhosi's midfield are believed to have influenced the club's strategy regarding Serero.

"They also felt that by having Sirino they would no longer need Serero as the two play almost a similar kind of football and that they also have youngsters like Mdu Shabalala and Mfundo Vilakazi who can play in similar positions as well. So those are some of the reasons why they might not sign Serero," the second insider revealed.

While Siya sources have indicated it is unlikely for Serero to sign for Chiefs, it remains to be seen if Amakhosi's strategy does change in future based on other factors which could make the club reconsider him.

Soccer Laduma has reported that Serero could become the highest-paid player at Cape Town City if the Western Cape side does complete the potential deal. Serero's prior association with City's boss John Comitis and interim coach Muhsin Ertugral, from his days at Ajax Cape Town (now Cape Town Spurs), adds to the factors that make the Cape Town club a favourable destination.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment but the club had not responded by the time this report was published.

The coming days should reveal the final outcome of Serero's destination, and the Siya crew will follow the latest developments.
