Cape Town Spurs are considering adding the experience of May Mahlangu to aid the struggling club, the Siya crew has been informed. This publication reported in March that the 33-year-old star was considering his future after parting ways with Kazakhstan outfit FK Aksu. Despite being heavily linked with a move to the PSL last year, the Stars of Africa Academy development product has been without a club and talk of possible retirement has surfaced.
Now, indications are that a possible lifeline has appeared in the form of the Urban Warriors, who are understood to be looking to add much-needed experience to their team, who continue to hog the bottom of the DStv Premiership table.
Mahlangu has spent the last 15 years of his career abroad having left Mzansi in 2008 and is one of the few players who have never plied their trade locally despite being linked with a move to the PSL in the past with links to Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns, amongst other teams. He has played in five different countries in Europe in Sweden, Romania, Khazakhstan, Turkey and Belgium.
It's understood that whether or not Mahlangu will be signed will depend on coach Ernst Middendorp, who has been tasked with the uphill battle of saving the club's top-flight status.
