Bafana Bafana midfielder Thulani Serero may have been handed a lifeline at Ajax Amsterdam, as Frank de Boer has stepped down as manager.
Serero's Ajax Miss Out On Dutch League Title
The former Ajax Cape Town star played a rare full 90 minutes in the clubs 1-1 draw with De Graafschap over the weekend.
De Boer, who saw his side miss out on the Eredivisie title to PSV Eindhoven after a dramatic final day, leaves the Dutch giants after six years in charge.
"I had a fantastic time here. First as a player and the past decade as a trainer," De Boer said on the the Ajax's Official Website.
"After winning four league title in succession the 2014-15 season was a disappointment that we wanted to rectify last season.
"We have done everything but it has not become what we all hoped and expected.
"I began to realise more that it was time for me for something else. That is better for me and I think also for Ajax."
A few months ago it was said that the South African may have to find another club, after falling down the pecking order at the Amsterdam club.
Serero had made over 100 appearances under De Boer, but has had a disappointing season at Ajax, mainly due to injury.
