Rhoo' made over 200 appearances for Leeds and captained the side during their last recent era of success.

It was in 1998/99 that Radebe's stock as a top defender in Europe rose. He was appointed the captain of United and what was followed was an unprecedented era of success for the English club.

For the next four seasons Leeds never finished outside of the top five in England's top flight.

Their run to the UEFA Champions League semi-final in 2000/01 under 'Rhoo's' captaincy was the highlight of this period.

Leeds reached the last four where they were stopped by eventual runners-up Valencia despite facing European giants like FC Barcelona, AC Milan and Real Madrid in the first two group stages.

At the time, Manchester United were seriously chasing Radebe's services, with Alex Ferguson famously saying, "Everyone should be interested in Lucas."

With injuries disturbing Rhoo's career, a deal to Old Trafford never materialized but following runs to the Europa League and Champions League semi-finals he was considered among the best defenders in Europe.

However, the Mzansi star even stayed with Leeds despite their financial troubles after 2004 and also remained at the club despite their relegation.
