Bucs To Have Star Defender Back For Pre-Season

Bucs To Have Star Defender Back For Pre-Season

Orlando Pirates look set to see the return of a star who recently established himself as a key player for side, when pre-season starts in a couple of months.

The Buccaneers recently lost Thabiso Lebitso as a result of a dislocated shoulder against Royal AM, ruling him out for the rest of the season. It's a big blow for the player who will miss the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns on June 1, but looks set to be ready to start the 2024/25 season.

The Siya crew has been led to believe that the player, who joined the Soweto giants from Chippa United during the January transfer window, will be ready to start pre-season with his teammates. It will be a crucial period for the 32-year-old, who will loook to fight for his place as the first choice right back, with Keagan Johannes being linked with a move to the Buccaneers from SuperSport United.

Before getting injured, Lebitso had made 10 appearances in all competitions and was fast becoming a key component at the back, ahead of his namesake Thabiso Monyane, who is now featuring at right full back.

His return will no doubt be a big boost for Pirates, who are determined to challenge for the DStv Premiership title next season, as well as compete in one of the CAF competitions.

As things stand, the Buccaneers have an opportunity to qualify for either the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup, though, will have their sights on the former, especially after they got knocked out in the qualifying rounds this season by Botswana Premier League champions Jwaneng Galaxy.

Qualifying for a continental club competition means that the club would need to have their players available for a big part of the season, so Lebitso's recovery will be important for head coach Jose Riveiro.
