MTN8 Final, Steve Komphela Reaction, Ajax Cape Town V Kaizer Chiefs, 19 September 2015

Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela contributed his side's loss to Ajax Cape Town in the MTN8 final on Saturday to their inability to deal with Nathan Paulse and the route one ball from the back.

A single penalty goal from Paulse in the second saw Ajax crowned MTN8 champions at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Speaking after the match, Komphela admitted his side struggled in defence and lacked bite in attack. He also commended Urban Warriors coach Roger de Sa for his tactics.

"I thought the game was played on first ball, and the winning of the second ball which Nathan Paulse was doing," said Komphela.

"We failed to deal with route one and we needed to be more aggressive with the second ball, we didn't do that.

"The same in attack as well. Anything that was dropped from the strikers, from their defenders to our strikers, we didn't pick it up and we didn't play our game.

"I think Roger got it spot on in that he made it difficult for us to defend by bringing in Paulse and (Toriq) Losper as well.

He eliminated and nullified our players.

"The changes we tried to make, we tried to affect the game.

"We thought something could happen but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

"The most important thing from here is to go lift the team up.

"It's a question of keeping on doing what you do best.

"I thought we did not over load the midfield.

"I think Ajax was more intentional in their actions, they were more aggressive.

"I don't want to say that we didn't want it more, but they were a second earlier than us.

"If we were a second earlier, then we would have done what we do best and play football."
