Teams: Mamelodi Sundowns v Petro de Luanda
Date: 30 November 2019
Venue: Loftus Versfeld
Mamelodi Sundowns will kickstart their CAF Champions League group stage campaign with the visit of Angolan side Petro de Luanda on Saturday night at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
The match will get underway at 21h00.
The Brazilians will be aiming to improve on their semi-final exit last term after they were denied a place in the final by Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.
Sundowns have been paired with Wydad once again in Group C, after the sides negotiated past Group A together last season - Algerian side USM Alger completes the section this term.
Pitso Mosimane's charges got over their mini-slump with a 1-0 victory over AmaZulu on Tuesday in the Absa Premiership, after a 2-1 win over Golden Arrows three days prior booked them a place in the Telkom Knockout final.
On the other hand, Petro are making their return to the CAF Champions League for the first time after being knocked out in the second round in 2010. They finished as runners-up in the 2018/19 season of the Angolan top flight.
The Luanda outfit have met with Sundowns before in the competition back in 2001 in the semi-finals, where the Tshwane giants knocked them out on penalties to reach the final after a 2-2 draw on aggregate. Masandawana went on to lose 4-1 to Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly in the final.
Petro have also met South African side SuperSport United twice in the CAF Confederation Cup, most recently in the 2018, where Matsatsantsa won 2-1 on aggregate in the first round.
