Speaking to FIFA TV ahead of their trip to the United States, the Bafana Bafana international shared his thoughts on the scale of the opportunity and the hunger within the squad to make an impression.
“It’s exciting, you know, as a player to go in such tournaments,” Zwane said.
“We want to be playing at that high level, trying to see how far we can go and to check how far we are as players by competing with the best.”
Sundowns are set to face some of the strongest teams from around the world, including Borussia Dortmund, Fluminese and Ulsan. Zwane acknowledged the challenge that lies ahead.
“We’ve been watching them, we know they are a good team with good players. We respect them, but we don’t fear them. We’re going to go there, play our football, and try to win the games,” he added.
The 35-year-old also noted the significance of the tournament for African football, saying the Brazilians want to inspire other teams from the continent.
“We just want to give hope to other teams in Africa that it is doable. Hopefully next time we have more numbers representing Africa. We are so excited,” Zwane continued.
