Mamelodi Sundowns legend Teko Modise says current head coach Manqoba Mngqithi should be given the same amount of patience that Pitso Mosimane received when he first took over the reins in 2012.
Mngqithi's start to his tenure as Sundowns coach did not get off to the best start.
This is after the coach suffered back-to-back MTN8 defeats to Stellenbosch, losing both matches 1-0 as the Cape winelands outfit progressed to the final of the competition, where they will face Orlando Pirates.
Despite Sundowns' slow start under Mngqithi, Modise feels that the coach should be given an adequate opportunity and that there is no need to press any panic buttons just yet.
Modise likens the club's current transitional period to that of Pitso Mosimane, which set the wheels in motion for the current dominance that Sundowns have enjoyed in recent years.
"Change is always uncomfortable," Modise told the Siya crew in an exclusive interview.
"A new face and a new voice in the room makes it very uncomfortable. Sometimes there are a lot of uncomfortable changes that need to happen for the team to get to that stage. I'll use this as an example. When coach Pitso came [in 2012] it was hell! A lot of players lost their jobs, but nobody remembers that we only remember the success. However, if he didn't win, we would go back to that.

"With the current direction of Mamelodi Sundowns and where they want to go, the team is taking a risk because you already have a successful product, a system that works. So, you want to continue that dominance. You are eyeing the FIFA Club World Cup, you want to play in the Champions League every season, you need young players that are experienced enough to be able to compete over there.
"So, the direction is uncomfortable, even for me as a fan. Because I'm so used to knowing what Sundowns are going to do. I'm so used to the players and used to knowing that every season they'll be collecting a trophy. But I don't see them not collecting a trophy this season because of the quality of players that they have. It's uncomfortable to see so many players leaving but it's nice to see so many players coming in, different faces who could give us a different dimension in terms of how we wanna play, but the basis remains the same where we still want to dominate," he added.
