The Buccaneers successfully defended their MTN8 crown after defeating the Brazilians 3-1 in the shoot-out after it ended goalless in extra-time.

Mokwena revealed that Shalulile was also playing with an injury as he reveals the club are in a difficult moment.

"We should have won it, so many chances, zero chances for Pirates over 120 minutes, so let's congratulate the winners Orlando Pirates, congratulations and congratulations to my players, they gave it their all," Mokwena told SuperSport TV.

"We were in a very difficult moment, Peter (Shalulile) played with an injury but it's not an excuse, we keep going, we're Mamelodi Sundowns, we're strong.

"We created all the chances you know, Themba (Zwane), Peter, another big one in the second-half with Marcelo (Allende) but okay that's football, so when you go to the lottery…I wanna congratulate my boys, I'm very proud of them, unlucky today but we're Mamelodi Sundowns, we're strong," he said.

The Sundowns coach added that the heavy fixture load is catching up with his players.

"We ran out of legs a little bit, it's difficult for us at the moment, we play a lot of games so, there's a price on every ticket but let's leave it to congratulate the players and let's leave it to congratulate Orlando Pirates," he added.

"When we win it's fantastic and when we also lose we need to be humble in defeat. So we're Mamelodi Sundowns, we'll bounce back," he concluded.
