There was very little Johnson could do as he watched his side slump to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Mpumalanga Stadium in KwaZulu-Natal.
Knox Mutizwa was the chief instigator on the day as he netted a brace, his sixth goal against Chiefs, while Sifiso Hlanti's goal proved to be nothing more than a consolation.
The defeat to Arrows was Chiefs' fifth so far this season.
Reflecting on his first game in charge, Johnson lamented his side's slow start; however he chose to focus on the positives despite the disappointing outcome. "No coach in the world wants to have this type of start," he told journalists after the match.
"When you have this type of start then it's not good but we keep our feet on the ground and hopefully we'll be able to get better next time," he continued.
"It's not about turning around the fortunes, I think the fortunes are there. If you've ever been to the village then you'll know. It's about taking the job that your Chairman wants you to do and knowing that you've done this before in your life and you try and fix it up.
"I'm not someone who backs off, no. I will do my best and I think I have a good group of people behind me because it's not Cavin Johnson's show this, it belongs to a lot of people and they are putting a lot of effort into ensuring that we deliver on the eleven versus eleven."
