RIP Bongi Ntuli: Clubs, Players & Teammates Honour Ntuli

Tributes from players, coaches and clubs have been flooding in for AmaZulu's Bongi Ntuli following the announcement of his passing on Sunday.

What's the story?

AmaZulu stunned the South African football fraternity on Sunday by announcing the passing of striker Bongi Ntuli.

Usuthu confirmed that Ntuli was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer and lost his life on Sunday afternoon at a Pietermaritzburg hospital.

The likes of Teko Modise, Siphiwe Tshabalala and Stellenbosch head coach Steve Barker all took time to pay tribute to the veteran striker.

RIP Bongi Ntuli

The South African football fraternity was saddened to hear news of the untimely passing of AmaZulu striker Bonginkosi Ntul, after a short battle with cancer.

Ntuli, who was affectionately known as "Diego Costa" or "Mdeva" did duty for clubs like Golden Arrows, Platinum Stars and Mamelodi Sundowns, finishing his career at Usuthu, after joining in 2019.

Current and former players expressed sorrow on social media upon hearing the tragic news of Ntuli's passing, with coaches Steve Barker, TS Galaxy's Sead Ramovic, Shaun Bartlett and Pitso Mosimane honouring the late Pietermaritzburg-born star.

"It is with a very heavy heart that we inform you of the untimely passing of our beloved centre-forward and loyal servant, Bonginkosi Ntuli," reads a statement from AmaZulu.

"Ntuli was (very recently) diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, which metastasized and ultimately led to his death at the Midlands Medical Centre Private Hospital, in Pietermaritzburg this [Sunday] afternoon.

"May his beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. The club requests privacy and patience be granted his family and friends at this difficult time. Further announcements will be made in due course," concluded Usuthu's statement.
