Paris Saint-Germain have money – it's no secret. But it seems all that cash has seen them lose the plot somewhat, as they are expected to pay four times more than what Kylian Mbappe is worth. Don't believe us? Check it out!
The French outfit is one of the richest clubs in the world, and after having already spent a ludicrous amount on signing Neymar for a world-record transfer fee, they are about to spend even more massive millions.
According to the latest reports, PSG have agreed terms with Monaco for the signature of Mbappe for a fee of €155m (R2.3 billion), but the total deal could be worth €190m due to a series of add-ons and bonuses.
Due to FIFA Fair Play (FFP) regulations, PSG are set to loan the 18-year-old with an obligation to buy, and when the deal becomes permanent in July 2018, the Parisians will have to pay the initial figure.
Even in football terms the €155m is a mammoth sum of money, and to put it into perspective, that figure is currently four times more than what Mbappe is valued at. According to Transfermarkt, the teenager's net worth is said to be estimated at €35m (R525m).
Let's not forget, the add-on clauses for bonuses are likely to come into play, which will PSG having to pay a figure close to the secondary fee.
Mbappe has only had a season and a half of experience playing in Ligue 1, whilst the likes of Paul Pogba has been around longer and won a lot more and he cost Manchester United €105m last year…
Granted, Mbappe is one of most exciting talents in football right now, but he is still young and inexperienced. Spending this type of money for an 18-year-old makes it difficult for other teams to compete for the signature of proven players because the transfer fees have become astronomical.
It seems that PSG have lost the plot a bit when it comes to signing players, and this transfer could change things drastically in football.
Do you think it is wise to spend such crazy money on a teenager?
