The story

Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana starlet, Relebohile Mofokeng walked away as one of the major winners at the GQ Men of the Year (MOTY) Awards on Sunday.

The GQ MOTY 2024 awards, hosted at The River Meadow Manor in Centurion, honoured Mzansi's trailblazers, visionaries, and icons who redefine excellence across industries.

'Rele' got to rub shoulders with prominent names ranging from creative industry titans and innovators to ex-Bafana Bafana captains, Bongani Khumalo and Lucas Radebe.

Mofokeng walked away with the Sportsperson of the Year award, alongside Springbok rugby superstar, Eben Etzebeth. Looking classy in his black tuxedo, Mofokeng happily received some valuable advice from 'Rhoo'.

"At a time like this, when you're on a high, it's very important, that's when you need to focus. Because, there's life after football. It comes quick. With a lot of responsibilities. So, you've got a chance," said the Leeds United legend, bestowing some wisdom onto the 20-year-old.

Radebe was also a winner on the night, receiving the Editors Special Award for his contributions to the beautiful game and his philanthropic efforts.

Another GQ MOTY award winner, celebrated actress and producer Nomzamo Mbatha expressed her pride in Mofokeng as an Orlando Pirates supporter and emphasizing his impact on young footballers around the country.

"Whatever dream that you have for yourself, I hope God and your ancestors take you to it. We pray for you, for sure, Buccaneer, Ezimnyama Ngenkani, The Happy People!

"I'm so proud, and I'm so inspired, and I know that even the kids that play football KwaMashu at Ground 6 when they watch you play, shining the way you shine. Kids, from where you come from, seeing you shine, get that motivation," said the 2024 GQ Woman of the Year, adding:

"So we have to pray for you to stay alive, to stay fit for every single limb in your body, to stay in top shape. Be the icon man, be the icon brother."
