Mpho Makola

Mpho Makola has spoken about leading Orlando Pirates on the field to an impressive victory in their first CAF Champions League match after an absence of five years from the continental competition.

Makola was named Bucs' captain for their match against Light Stars of Seychelles at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The 32-year-old repaid the trust of the technical team by producing a sublime performance which he capped off with a goal scored from a stunning free kick.

The Alexandra-born player told the media after the match that the goal will boost his confidence for upcoming matches for the Soweto giants.

"To be honest with you, I think I was the one that was wearing the captain's armband but I think there were 11 captains in the team on the field. I think everybody came to the party, everybody played a role in the field of play," Makola told the media.

"To be on the scoresheet, I think it's a huge morale booster for me because I haven't played in a long time. So, I think this is going to build up my confidence going into the next couple of games," added the star.

With Bucs having shifted their focus to their upcoming Absa Premiership match against Maritzburg United, which has been scheduled for the Orlando Stadium on Saturday, Makola will hope for another start in coach Milutin Sredojevic's side to add to the three appearances he has so far in the 2018/19 season.
