Milutin Sredojevic Wanted More Than Five Goals For Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates

Orlando Pirates head coach, Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic, says his side were looking for more than the five goals they scored in their opening match of this year's CAF Champions League.

The Buccaneers marked their return to the Champions League, after a five-year absence from the competition, with a 5-1 victory over Light Stars FC of Seychelles at the Orlando Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Although the match started with Bucs dominating play, it was the visitors who scored first early in the first half to silence the home crowd in Orlando.

However, Bucs came back stronger after that as goals from Thabo Qalinge, Augustine Mulenga, Mpho Makola, Justin Shonga and Linda Mntambo sealed the deal for the Soweto giants.

Speaking to the media after the match, Sredojevic commended the introduction of Thembinkosi Lorch and Shonga, who are the two players he calls firefighters, later on in the game.

"We created some chances and missing. Later on, we (substituted) two players (Meshack) Maphangule and Kuda Mahachi and we put in Lorch and Shonga as firefighters, we call it so because 3-1 is not enough. They came in with Shonga scoring and Lorch impacting the game in his way, provided that we scored that fifth goal that in a way to satisfy something that we wanted. We didn't want to concede, this is negative (and) we need to be critical," Sredojevic told the media.

The coach says the team had been looking to score more than five goals to take them to Seychelles for their return leg match on December 05.

"We wanted to score more than five. The most important thing that we need to be satisfied with is the fact that, I want to call it for the times that are ahead of us, we have widened up the pool of players that are competing for certain places for the matches ahead of us," said the coach.
