The setback of being held to a stalemate in their own backyard wasn't lost to Orlando Pirates players, midfielder Linda Mntambo has said.
Speaking ahead of the Buccaneers' CAF Champions League second leg first round tie away to African Stars in Windhoek this afternoon, and reflecting on the goalless draw in the home fixture at Orlando Stadium last weekend, the player told the Siya crew – using a phrase often considered a cliché – that the result was "not a true reflection of the game".
He added, "We obviously wanted to win the game, but African Stars put in a good shift in the way they defended. I know we could have made things easier for ourselves if we had won the game. The good part is that we did not concede and we go to Namibia now knowing that a win or a score draw will be enough for us."
Pirates will progress to the group stages of the Champions League if they are able to negotiate their way past what will be determined opponents who will be playing in front of their home crowd at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
"That's a plus for them, but maybe works to our advantage as well because they can't sit back the way they did here. And they know that a goalless draw doesn't give them the chance to qualify – so they have to win at all cost," Mntambo said.
Kick-off for the Champions League fixture is at 4pm.
