Tau: We Can Play At The Highest Level

Bafana Bafana forward Percy Tau says they have shown people that they can play at the highest level after beating Morocco 2-1 in their final Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday.

Bafana got an early lead, within five minutes, after goalkeeper Munir Mohamedi spilled a cross by Tau.

Zakhele Lepasa doubled the lead for Hugo Broos' charges early in the second stanza while Chelsea superstar Hakim Ziyech pulled a goal back for the Atlas Lions on the hour-mark.

South Africa held on in the end, as they leapfrogged Morocco by one point at the top of Group K, although the Atlas Lions have a game left.

Tau, who won the CAF Champions League title with his club Al Ahly last Sunday, says their performance shows that they are growing and still have room for improvement.

"I think we're growing as a team, there's good progress and we can also show people that we're able to play at the highest level and I only want to build from this performance," Tau told SuperSport after the match.

"We still have more in ourselves to do more and we'll improve on that."

The former Brighton and Hove Albion forward also appreciated the support they got at FNB Stadium, as over 50 000 tickets were reportedly sold.

"We're happy we played here and we got the numbers with the fans, we're so grateful that they came out, they gave us a good atmosphere, we enjoyed it, I'm proud that we're here and we won," he said.

And after being disrupted by injuries for the past year, Tau continued and said that he's happy finally to be "fully fit".

"I'm happy to be fully fit and I can only build on my performance. I still want to grow," he added.
