Bayern Munich midfielder, Xabi Alonso, has insisted that he enjoyed every minute at Real Madrid but he felt it was the right time to leave the club.
The Spaniard opened up about his sudden move away from the Bernabeu and the reason why he joined Bayern Munich.
"It wasn't an easy decision, it would never be easy to leave Madrid, because it's a top club. But I felt it was the right time," he told TZ.
"I had the chance to go to another top club in another league. It was maybe the last time to have experience something new, that's why I took a few days to make up my mind.
"I talked about it with Madrid, who were very understanding. I'll always be very thankful to the club. Maybe the decision came late, but that's how it was."
The 32-year-old went on to add that Pep Guardiola wasn't the sole reason why moved over to the German giants, but the fact that he truly wanted him was the deciding factor.
"There were various reasons, the coach truly wanted me, which was important," he added.
"I went to one of the all-time greats in Real Madrid and now I'm at another top club outside Spain, My career has a nice script to it."
Alonso made 236 appearances in his time at Real Madrid in which contributed with six goals assisting in a further 32.
