The Brazilian joined Los Blancos in 2009 for £56 million (R1.2 billion) before Cristiano Ronaldo signed for the Spanish giants later in the same window.
Kaka struggled with injuries during his four years in Madrid, but made 120 appearances for the club, during which he scored 29 goals and assisted a further 39 strikes.
"You can't call it a failure," he said, as quoted by Marca.
"Obviously it was a different experience to what it was like in Milan, but at the end of the day I scored 29 goals in 120 appearances over four years and we won three trophies.
"What I lacked was a regular run of football because of injuries and also because of the coach's decisions.
"Still, you can't say that I failed. What's more, I can proudly say that I spent four years at a great club in Real Madrid."
