UEFA Champions League
Result: Young Boys 2-1 Juventus
Date: 12 December 2018
Venue: Stade de Suisse
Juventus finished top in Group H, despite suffering a shock defeat to Young Boys in their last UEFA Champions League group match on Wednesday night. Cristiano Ronaldo had a glorious chance to open the scoring for Bianconeri in the 13th minute after going through on goal and rounding Young Boys goalkeeper Marco Wolfli but he went a little bit too wide and his goal-bound shot was cleared off the line. Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri was forced to make a substitution in the 23rd minute after Juan Cuadrado went down with injury. He was replaced by Alex Sandro. Sandro was unlucky to concede a penalty on the half-hour mark after tripping Moumi Ngamaleu inside the box a few minutes after coming on. Guillaume Hoarau stepped up to give Young Boys the lead from the penalty spot, 1-0. The Italian side were probing for the equaliser but it could not come in the first stanza as a very compact Young Boys took the 1-0 lead into the break. The hosts were playing very well in the opening stages of the second stanza and looked good value for their lead as Juventus were hardly creating chances in the last third. Hoarau doubled the lead for the hosts in the 68th minute and completed his brace in the process after firing a low shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner. Three minutes later, Hoarau almost made it 3-0 for Young Boys as he attempted an overhead kick inside the box that missed narrowly wide. Paulo Dybala pulled a goal back for Bianconeri ten minutes before time with a superb volley straight into the bottom corner eight minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute. Juventus threw everything at Young Boys in the closing minutes but the Swiss outfit held on for the famous victory.
