Result: Valencia 0-2 Juventus

Date: 19 September 2018

Venue: Mestalla

Cristiano Ronaldo left the pitch in tears after he was sent off on his UEFA Champions League debut for Juventus, who recorded a 2-0 win away to Valencia.

The visitors had the game's first meaningful opening after 11 minutes  when Federico Bernardeschi's cross found Mario Mandzukic, who blazed over the top with a first-time finish from close range.

Juve squandered another chance in the 17th minute as Sami Khedira fired wide at the far post after some good work by Ronaldo on the flanks.

The game turned on its head in the 30th minute when Ronaldo was shown a straight red in an off-the-ball incident with Murillo. The Juve star left the pitch in tears.

Despite being a man down, the Old Lady were awarded a penalty on the stroke of halftime when Joao Cancelo was brought down by Dani Parejo.

With Ronaldo off the pitch, Miralem Pjanic took responsibility and calmly slotted home to put the Serie A champions 1-0 up before the break.

Shortly after the break, Juventus were a awarded a second penalty when Leonardo Bonucci was brought down in the box. Pjanic stepped up once again and made no mistake from the spot.

With time running out for the LaLiga side, Kevin Gameiro and Santi Mina were introduced in the 70th minute as they looked to get back in the game.

Valencia threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, and they were awarded a penalty late on but Parejo saw his spot-kick saved by Wojciech Szczesny as Juve ran out 2-0 winners on the night.
