Paris Saint-Germain cruised to the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League after beating Red Star Belgrade 4-1 in their final Group C clash on Tuesday evening. Edinson Cavani gave PSG a good start by opening the scoring in the ninth minute with a simple tap-in after Kylian Mbappe broke away on the right side on a counter-attack. Thomas Tuchel's charges were on top of the the hosts' box for most of the half, looking to double their lead. Neymar almost extended the visitors' lead on the half-hour mark after he was played through on goal by Cavani, but his goal-bound strike was saved by Red Star goalkeeper Milan Borjan. Neymar inevitably made it 2-0 for PSG five minutes before the break with a delicate chip over Borjan following a through ball from Mbappe. Eleven minutes into the second half, Marko Gobeljic pulled a goal back for the hosts after a headed clearance fell kindly in his path and he unleashed a stunning volley past PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. Borjan kept Red Star in the game two minutes after the hour, making a great stop to deny PSG full-back Thilo Kehrer who unleashed a stinging shot from the penalty area. However, Marquinhos ended any hopes of a comeback for the hosts after restoring a two-goal cushion for PSG 16 minutes before time with a header inside the box after a clever free-kick from Di Maria. Mbappe rubbed salt into wounds with the fourth goal in stoppage time, running over a tired Belgrade defence following a pass from Neymar to seal top spot in the group.
