UEFA Champions League
Result: Real Madrid 0-3 CSKA Moscow
Date: 12 December 2018
Venue: Santiago Bernabeu
A second-string Real Madrid outfit were left embarrassed after suffering a 3-0 defeat to CSKA Moscow in their final UEFA Champions League group stage clash.
Santiago Solari handed a first Champions League start to Vinicius Junior, while Isco and Marco Asensio were also included in the side.
Los Blancos dominated the opening exchanges but they had to wait until the 24th for their first opening as Asensio rattled the frame of the goal.
The Bernabeu was silenced in the 37th minute as when Fyodor Chalov was afforded time and space to curl home a wonderful strike from 20-yards out.
It got better for CSKA six minutes later as Georgi Shchennikov doubled the visitors' lead with a close-range finish after initial effort was saved by Thibaut Courtois.
Los Blancos were unable to carve out another clear-cut for the remainder of the first half, much to the disappointment of the home side.
Solari wasted no time making a change as Gareth Bale replaced the in-effective Karim Benzema at the start of the second half.
CSKA, meanwhile, did not lift the foot off the pedal as they went in search of a third goal, with Vladimir Vasic going close just before the hour mark.
The Russians did manage to bag a third goal in the 73rd minute thanks to a fine strike from Arnór Sigurdsson.
The Bernabeu started clearing out as a result, while Solari's men were unable to carve out a clear-cut opening at goal as the encounter ended 3-0.
Despite the defeat, Los Blancos finish the group on top while AS Roma secured second spot.
