UEFA Champions League Report: Paris Saint-Germain v Red Star Belgrade 03 October 2018

UEFA Champions League

Result: Paris Saint-Germain 6-1 Red Star Belgrade

Date: 03 October 2018

Venue: Parc des Princes

Paris Saint-Germain showed Red Star Belgrade no mercy as they romped to a 6-1 win in their UEFA Champions League Group C clash, with Neymar bagging a hat-trick.

The Ligue 1 champions entered the clash looking for nothing but three points after they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Liverpool two weeks ago.

After a quiet start to the game, PSG got the breakthrough goal in the 20th minute, with Neymar curling home a fine free-kick on the edge of the box.

It was 2-0 two minutes later as Neymar bagged his second of the game, stabbing the ball home from close range, following a cross from Kylian Mbappe.

PSG continued to dominate and they bagged a third goal in the 37th minute as Edinson Cavani wriggled away from two defenders before wrong-footing the goalkeeper.

There was enough time to get a fourth goal before the break, with Angel di Maria sneaking into the box to flick home a cross from Thomas Meunier.

The hosts came out guns blazing in the second half, with Mbappe causing a couple problems inside the opening 10 minutes of the stanza.

Mbappe was not to be denied on 70 minutes, as the French forward got on the end of Cavani's flick before slotting the ball into an empty net.

Red Star did pull a goal back four minutes later, thanks a strike from substitute Marko Marin, who drilled a fine effort past Alphonse Areola.

Neymar had the last laugh as he completed his hat-trick with nine minutes remaining with another impressive free-kick to round off an emphatic win.
