Result: Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 Liverpool
Date: 28 November 2018
Venue: Parc de Princes
Paris Saint-Germain boosted their hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage after defeating Liverpool 2-1 at the Parc de Princes.
PSG star duo of Kylian Mbappe and Neymar was included in the line-up after missing the weekend's encounter through injuries they picked up on international duty.
The Ligue 1 champions got off to the perfect start as they took the lead in the 13th minute. The Reds' defence was caught napping, which allowed Juna Bernat to slot home from close range.
The Reds never really settled after the goal as they struggled to get their front three of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the game.
PSG then doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Alisson could only parry Edinson Cavani's strike into the path of Neymar, who slotted into the bottom corner.
Liverpool were awarded a penalty just before the break when Angel di Maria lunged in on Mane. James Milner stepped up and calmly sent Gianluigi Buffon the wrong way.
The Reds pushed for an equaliser in the second half and they went close in the 60th minute when Firmino headed wide following a cross from Andrew Robertson.
Alisson Becker came to Liverpool's rescue 10 minutes later with a super save from point-blank range to keep out Marquinhos' header after some good work by Neymar.
Klopp's men threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but the PSG defence, led by Thiago Silva, was resolute in the closing stages as the Ligue 1 outfit held on for a vital win.
