Paris Saint-Germain, who were without Neymar and Edinson Cavani, recorded a 2-0 victory over Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.

Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard returned to the United line up in place of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, while Julian Draxler replaced the injured Edinson Cavani for PSG.

The home side enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages, but they struggled to carve out any clear-cut openings to trouble Gianluigi Buffon.

PSG should have taken the lead after 27 minutes when Draxler slipped Kylian Mbappe through on goal, however the Frenchman could only send his effort wide of the target.

The home side were dealt a blow before the break when Lingard was forced off with an injury and replaced by Sanchez. In addition, Anthony Martial was substituted at half-time after picking up a knock, with Juan Mata taking his place.

Seven minutes into the second half, PSG broke the deadlock as Presnel Kimpembe lost his marker easily to slot home from Angel di Maria's corner.

The lead was doubled on the hour mark as Di Maria picked up his second assist by setting up Mbappe, who flicked the ball beyond David De Gea.

United were left shell-shocked by the quick-fire goals and looked out of ideas going forward, while PSG were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

There was more bad news for the home side in the closing stages as Paul Pogba was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the game with two minutes remaining.

Nevertheless, 2-0 was how the score remained as the Ligue 1 champions take a healthy two-goal lead into the second leg.
