Result: Liverpool 4-0 Red Star Belgrade
Date: 24 October 2018
Venue: Anfield
African superstar Mohamed Salah brought up his 50th goal for Liverpool in their 4-0 win over Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
Liverpool showed their early dominance when Roberto Firmino handed his side the lead in the 20th minute with a well-struck effort from 12-yards out.
The Reds set up another golden chance when Sadio Mane found the feet of Andrew Robertson, but his first-time effort drilled off target.
With Red Star showing little threat on all fronts, the English side further stamped their authority on proceedings.
Just before halftime, the lead was doubled when Mohamed Salah rifled home from close range after an impressive assist by Xherdan Shaqiri.
In the second half, the dominance continued from the home side. It was three goals to the good early on when Salah made no mistake from the penalty spot.
The Serbians were completely out of the contest and made no threat whatsoever. On the other hand, Liverpool were in an unforgiving mood.
With very few chances in the final quarter, both sides opted to run down the clock with substitutions aplenty.
There was to be late drama though and Mane was denied with a fantastic save from the penalty spot by Borjan with the follow-up not bearing fruit.
The Senegalese international did make up for his error, finishing off a flowing team move 10 minutes from time to end his seven-goal run without a goal.
That proved to be the last of the goals on the night, as Liverpool sealed a comprehensive 4-0 victory.
