UEFA Champions League Report: Dynamo Kyv v FC Barcelona 24 November 2020

Result: Dynamo Kyv v FC Barcelona

Date: 24 November 2020

Venue: NSK Olimpijs'kyj

FC Barcelona booked their spot in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League with two matches to spare after thrashing Dynamo Kyiv 4-0 in Group G on Tuesday evening.

Barca made wholesale changes, with Lionel Messi and Frenkie De Jong not traveling with the squad, manager Ronald Koeman also kept Antoine Griezmann, Ousmane Dembele and Jordi Alba on the bench.

Philippe Coutinho had the first chance for the Catalan giants just before the hour-mark after finding space on the edge of the box to curl his shot into the top corner but his effort missed slightly over the bar.

The visitors had a penalty appeal nine minutes before the break after Trincao went down inside the box from the pressure of two Dynamo players and while the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) got involved, nothing was given for the visitors.

Carlos De Pena had a big chance to break the deadlock for Dynamo on the stroke of half-time after bursting his way inside the box and had a clear sight of goal, but goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen made a good save.

Sergino Dest finally broke the deadlock for Barca seven minutes after the break with a low strike past goalkeeper Georgi Bushchan for his first goal for the club after a return pass from Martin Braithwaite.

Braithwaite quickly doubled the lead for Koeman's charges five minutes later with a tap-in at the back post after Oscar Mingueza's flick-on header from a corner.

Braithwaite completed his brace in the last 20 minutes with a powerful penalty past Bushchan after he was brought down by Denys Popov in the box.

Barcelona were home and dry in the closing stages and Griezmann rubbed salt into the wounds of Dynamo after making it 4-0 for Blaugrana in stoppage time with a clinical finish inside the box after a cut-back by Alba.

As a result, the Spanish giants booked their spot in the last 16 with two matches to spare and kept their perfect record intact at the top of Group G.
