UEFA Champions League

Result: Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Atletico Madrid

Date: 24 October 2018

Venue: Signal-Iduna Park

Borussia Dortmund put on a classy display to thrash Atletico Madrid 4-0 to maintain their perfect record in Group A in the UEFA Champions League.

Atletico started the match on a high note, denying Dortmund possession as they were pressing them high, but chances were hard to come by in the early stages.

Christian Pulisic had a wonderful opportunity to break the deadlock for Lucian Favre's charges on the half-hour mark, but his curling strike skimmed past the top corner of the post.

Axel Witsel finally broke the deadlock for the German side seven minutes before halftime with a strike from inside the edge of the box that took a huge deflection off Saul Niguez and wrong footed Oblak, 1-0.

The visitors looked rattled towards the end of the half as Dortmund were in high confidence.

Saul was unlucky he did not equalise for Atletico seven minutes after the break with a curling strike that came off the top frame of the crossbar.

Atletico were still probing with 20 minutes remaining but they were getting a lot of resistance from Favre's men, who were defending well.

Raphael Guerreiro eventually made it 2-0 for Dortmund in the 73rd minute with a simple tap-in from a cross from on-loan Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi.

Jadon Sancho ended the game as a contest seven minutes before time with a simple finish following some more good work from Hakimi.

Raphael Guerreiro rounded off the scoring in the last minute of regulation time by pouncing on a mistake at the back to slot home from close range as Dortmund take control of Group A.
