After Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus were knocked out by Olympique Lyon last week, the 2019/20 Champions League lost the third highest-paid player in the world.

The 35-year-old reportedly earns €31 million (R635 million) per year with the Bianconeri, with only two stars in football pocketing more, namely Lionel Messi and Neymar, according to various reports.

Both of them still have a chance to claim this year's UCL trophy, with Neymar and Paris Saint-Germain meeting Atalanta on Wednesday night, while Messi and FC Barcelona face Bayern Munich on Friday.

The Brazilian is believed to earn €36 million (R738 million) per annum with PSG, which is as much as what quarter-final opponents Atalanta's complete squad earns, according to L'Equipe.

Only Messi pockets more, with the Barca captain said to be on €46 million (R942 million) a year in basic salary, excluding bonuses.
