Many of Europe's absolute superstars will hope to play an important role in this season's edition of the UEFA Champions League.
Over the past nine campaigns, only four clubs have lifted the coveted UCL trophy, namely Real Madrid, who won it four times, Bayern Munich (twice), FC Barcelona and Liverpool.
Despite Real's dominance on the pitch, though, only one of their players is among the top earners in this season's UCL.
The list is dominated by players from FC Barcelona, who have three representatives among the 12 highest-paid stars in the Champions League, while there are two players each from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.
Lionel Messi leads the ranking with an annual salary of €46 million (R897 million) after tax, followed by Neymar, who is said to be on €36 million (R702 million) a year, while Cristiano Ronaldo completes the podium with a yearly income of €31 million (R604 million).
